Principal's Message

Hello Heatherwood Families,

8th Grade Moving Up Ceremony Practice:   8th graders will have practice for the Moving Up Ceremony during period 6 on Monday, June 19.  All 8th graders will report to their 6th period teacher at the regular time, then will receive further directions from their teachers including their line-up locations.

During the practice, 8th graders will be reminded of the following expectations for the evening ceremony:

  • Cell phones/electronics turned off/put away
  • Dress code is  “Family Holiday.”  Sleeveless dresses are ok, but no strapless or spaghetti straps.
  • Shoes should be comfortable and practical
  • No gum/food/drink

8th Grade Moving Up Ceremony:  Our Moving Up Ceremony is Monday, June 19th in the Heatherwood gymnasium from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.  Join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of our 8th graders and wish them well at high school and beyond.  So that all families can enjoy the celebration, here are some reminders:

  • 8th graders must be lined up in their assigned locations no later than 5:00pm (Note: time has been updated!).
  • Parking will be available in the upper and lower lots, as well as behind JHS.  Give yourself extra time to park
  • We ask that families not bring noise-makers so we do not startle our guests or balloons so that we do not block the view of others

WE ONCE AGAIN THANK OUR AVID GUEST SPEAKERS!

Over the last two months, we have had SEVERAL volunteers come in and speak to our 7th and 8th Grade AVID classes.   These volunteers shared their school experiences, their college experiences, and spoke about their career paths.   Thank-you to these amazing people:

Michelle Stiller             John Pfeil             Benedicto Manzano             Lindsay Rucker

Brandon Hannasch          Megan Warth                    Ruben Miranda

If you are  interested in coming in to be an AVID guest speaker for next school year, look for a newsletter communication early next fall.   If you have already come in and are interested in coming again, please know that we do a two year rotation (since you speak to both classes) but you would be most welcome to return for the 2019-20 School Year.

Go Hawks!                Kristie Rickert (7th Grade AVID Teacher)          Carla Barton (8th Grade AVID Teacher)

Summer Reading books will be available for check out on Monday, 6/19 during lunches.

Final Locker Cleanout:  Our final locker cleanout is scheduled for Wednesday, June 21 with ALL items including shelving and decorations to be removed from lockers.  Students are not to bring backpacks to school on the final day of classes on Thursday, June 22.  Lockers that are damaged or that are not cleaned out will result in a fine.

Last Day of School:  Thursday, June 22nd is the last day of school and a 2.5 hour early dismissal.  The student day will end at 12:20pm.

Yearbook updates: Yearbooks were distributed Friday, June 16th.   To claim your yearbook or purchase a yearbook ( $30), go to the main office to verify that your fines have been cleared.  Students are encouraged to put their names in their yearbooks and are responsible for their safe-keeping.

Dress Code Reminders:  A reminder that as we start to transition into summer, students must wear clothing that meets our school dress code.  Please save midriffs, open backs and scoop necklines for the weekend or make appropriate adjustments for school.
