Hello Heatherwood families,

 

PTA FREE MOVIE MATINEE CELBRATION EVENTS! THIS WEEK! January 20th, 1:30 – 3:55 p.m. in the HW Cafeteria

Join us  THIS FRIDAY, Nov 20th, right after school for another great FREE Matinee Movie Event -- open to all HW students!!  This week we’ll be showing “Star Wars, The Force Awakens” which is rated PG-13, students MUST have signed permission slips to attend. Admission and the first popcorn is free! Students are encouraged to bring some money, we'll have additional popcorn and other snacks available for purchase,. Parents - we could really use a few volunteers. Students must provide their own transportation following the event.  (School office closes at 4:00 p.m.)

Multi-Cultural Dessert Night: Our elective team, in conjunction with our Heatherwood PTA, will be hosting a Multi-Cultural Night on January 23rd from 5:30 to 7:00.  This event will feature student exhibitions and interactive opportunities to celebrate and understand our varied cultural identities and experiences.   Please consider bringing a dessert to share with other families during this event.  To sign up to bring a dessert please use the link set up by our PTA: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4eaba82aa0f49-multicultural

Natural Leaders: Heatherwood administration and teachers want to hear from our immigrant and multi-cultural families and are wanting to work with families to establish a Natural Leaders program.  Please come to Multi-Cultural Dessert Night and learn more about how you can be a part of this program. 

Author Visit: On Wednesday, January 25th, Heatherwood Library will be hosting National Book Award and Newbery Medal winner, Steve Sheinkin.  He’s a non-fiction author who is touring the country promoting his latest book, Undefeated: Jim Thorpe and the Carlisle Indian School Football Team.  One of his books, B---: The Race to build and Steal The World’s Most Dangerous Weapon (see the link for the full title- the district filter blocks it), is on the 7th Grade Battle and used to be required 9th grade reading district-wide.  Another one of his titles, The Port Chicago 50: Disaster, Mutiny, and the Fight for Civil Rights, is part of the district-wide required 8th grade summer reading program.  Here’s more info about his books:

Athletics:

Wrestling (co-ed, no-cut, and open to 6th-8th grade but 6th grade cannot compete in matches).  No prior experience necessary!  First practice is Feb 6.  To participate, students must submit required forms through https://everettschools.rankonesport.com/Main/Default2.aspx?Type=4.

Athletic Forms and ASB cards - All students who participate on a sports team must pay a sports fee (for each sport played) and an ASB card.  These fees can be paid online on the HMS website ("Payments online") tab or in the main office during office hours (7:30-3:30pm).  Students who qualify for free/reduced lunch can see Ms. Anderson in the Attendance Office,

 Soccer Uniforms - Any student who played for Heatherwood soccer who has not yet turned in his/her uniform needs to do so immediately.  Failure to turn in the uniform will result in a fine.  Athletes also will not be able to turn out for other Heatherwood teams until the uniform is returned.  Turn in uniforms to the Attendance Office.
 

Clubs:
Soccer Club begins on Feb 7.  Students of all grades and all ability levels are encouraged to come and play!  Students must complete an emergency medical form to participate but otherwise do not need to have any additional forms or sports physicals completed.  Emergency medical forms are to be picked up/turned in at the Attendance Office.  On February 7, Mr. Brown will host an informational meeting about the club at 3:00pm in the cafeteria.  Students should bring athletic shoes (no spikes), shorts, t-shirt, coat or sweatshirt, and a water bottle.  The club will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-3:50pm through March 16 with a potential district tournament on March 18.

Volunteers are needed for Soccer Club.  If you are interested in volunteering to assist with Soccer Club, please contact Janelle Jaeger in the Heatherwood Main Office at jjaeger@everettsd.org to inquire about the screening process.  We will need help Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2/7-3/16 from 3:00-3:50pm.  Duties may include monitoring/refereeing for scrimmages, leading drills and/or assisting with equipment.

Visitors Sign-In:  If you are visiting our school for any purpose (meeting with a teacher, dropping off lunch, or adding money to your student’s lunch account) please sign in at the office and get a visitor’s badge.  Visitors to the school are not permitted beyond the main office/foyer area without a visitor’s badge.  Parents, this is extremely important for school safety reasons and we appreciate your support!
