Hello Heatherwood Families,
UW Field Trip for 8th graders: Field trip forms need to be turned into first period teachers for our May 30th trip to the UW. Students should plan to bring limited items (lunch, water bottle, cellphone and sunscreen if necessary) that can easily be carried through campus.
Music to CWU: Our music programs are heading to Central Washington University on Monday, May 22nd.
Field Day Fun: Just a reminder that Field Day marks the celebration of a successful year. Participation in Field will be contingent upon students being academically successful in all classes as well as students meeting ALL behavioral expectations. Parents, please talk with your students about finishing the year strong. Please remind them to stay organized, complete and turn in their classwork!
Athletics: The League Championship Track and Field Meet is at Shoreline Stadium on Wednesday, May 24 and begins at 3:45 p.m. Bus departs from behind JHS at 2:20pm.
ASB Fundraiser Bowling Celebration: Students who sold 10 or more items for the ASB fundraiser and who turned in completed field trip forms to the office will go to Glacier Lanes as a "thank you" for their support. The celebration is scheduled for Thursday, May 25th from 1:00-3:00pm. Participating students will report to the upper (staff) parking lot at 1:00pm to take the bus to the bowling alley. While there, students will enjoy unlimited bowling as well as root beer floats. The bus will leave the bowling alley at 3:00 for a return to Heatherwood at about 3:30pm. Students who normally ride a bus home and who do not have another arrangement to get home can ride the activity bus at 4:00pm. Parent volunteers who have signed up to chaperone are asked to check-in at the main office by 12:45pm.
After School Clubs: All afterschool student clubs will have their final meetings on Thursday, May 25. Student Success Time (REQUIRED/ASSIGNED ONLY) will continue in the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays afterschool through June 8 with the activity bus available through this date. SUCCESS TIME FROM MAY 30th through JUNE 8th is only for those students who are REQUIRED BY TEACHERS to attend. Note: Students who are not involved in a school sponsored activity afterschool may not ride the activity bus.
Dress Code Reminders: With warmer, sunny days predicted for this week, it is a good idea to remind students and parents about the importance of being compliant with the school dress code. Pants must be worn at the waist. Clothing must not advertise weapons, alcohol or drugs. Paper thin knits and or plunging necklines or backs must be worn with a cover up (sweater or sweatshirt). Tights or yoga pants must not be transparent and mesh inlays at upper thigh or hip must be covered with shorts or a skirt. (Please note that our current dress code policy does NOT allow tights/yoga pants but other middle schools in our district do. Knowing that Heatherwood’s policy needs to be brought to consistency with other middle schools, I have specifically NOT enforced this rule).
School Closed: Monday, May 29 in honor of Memorial Day
