Welcome to Mrs. Erickson 5th Highly Capable Class

  • Charlotte Erickson Photo Hello 5th grade HC students and families! If you don't already know, you will soon find out that Cedar Wood is a really exceptional place.  It is filled with positive and energetic people, both large and small, who work hard here every day.  This 2017-2018 school year will be my fourth year at Cedar Wood Elementary and my nineteenth year in Everett Public Schools.  I'm excited for the year to begin!

I have worn many hats in my life and have not always been a teacher.  I earned my undergraduate degree from Western Washington University with a major in Psychology and minor in English in 1980. I then worked in finance and counseling in social services, and was a stay-at-home mom.  It was not until my own two daughters, Shelby and Lauren, were in elementary and middle school that I received my Masters in Teaching from the University of Washington in 1997.

I have been teaching fourth and fifth graders in Everett Public Schools ever since. For some of those years I taught both grade levels together in a multi-age classroom, where I enjoyed creating small, flexible groups of learners with common strengths and interests. For the past three years here at Cedar Wood I taught 4th and 5th grade highly capable students.  I am excited to be working with highly capable 5th graders again this year and am looking forward to helping them reach challenging academic depths and enjoy the many "perks" of being the oldest students in the school.  Adventure awaits!
Now my daughters are grown and have careers of their own, I have two great son-in-laws, and a wonderful little grandson! Together my husband (a realtor and musician) and I love hiking, music, good books and movies, spending time with family and friends, and long quiet weekends at our cabin near White Pass. We take our little dog, Gracie, to the cabin too, where she enjoys barking at elk, chasing squirrels, and getting dirty. Gracie can always tell I’m gearing up for a new school year; she senses the excitement and energy building as I prepare. I hope you’re feeling that way too.  See you soon!
