Dear Everett Public Schools community members,

By now you have likely learned that our school board was honored by Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA) not just once, but twice in November,
First, our board and 16 others in the state shared the 2014 Board of Distinction honor. Second, our board was selected 2014 Board of the Year in the large school district category. (Two other districts, Union Gap, a small district, and University Place, a medium-sized district also are also 2014 Boards of the Year.)

Our directors were quick to acknowledge the foundations for these state honors were laid over several years, reflecting countless hours of community-minded governance and collaboration by past board members.

When board members attend a conference to learn about successes across our state, and they receive compliments and questions about how this district accomplishes what we do, board members give credit to our families, our supportive community, our amazing students and our dedicated staff.

School board members know public accountability and many long meetings come with their positions. Those challenging aspects of school board membership vanish when directors visit classrooms, when they attend school meetings and events, when they witness school staff’s work to support each child’s learning, and when their neighbors share a story about how well school is going for their children.

I extend my deepest thanks to these dedicated elected leaders and their predecessors for their remarkable, steady, and principled leadership of our school district, and to you for your support of our communities’ children.

I wish you the very best for the season’s holidays.
