This year in Algebra 1 we will be learning a ton of math. The Common Core State Standards for High School Mathematics are the guideline for exactly what kind of math we will be covering. Generally, we will be exploring Linear, Quadratic, and Exponential functions.According to Jo Boaler, a professor of mathematics education at Stanford University, a math classroom should be a place where students believe:"Everyone can do well in math.
Mathematics problems can be solved with many different insights and methods.
Mistakes are valuable, they encourage brain growth and learning.
Mathematics will help them in their lives, not because they will see the same types of problems in the real world but because they are learning to think quantitatively and abstractly and developing an inquiry relationship with math."In my math classroom I expect every student to truly believe the above statements, and one thing that you can expect from me is that I will work my hardest to make sure that every student in my class finds success in math this year.
