Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA)

  • What is the DRA?

The DRA is a two-part assessment that is conducted through a one-to-one conference with the teacher. First, the student reads a selected leveled text, followed by retelling the information. The teacher uses the assessment to identify a student's reading level, fluency, comprehension and accuracy. The student then receives a reading level between A1 and 80 to use in selecting appropriate reading material.

    Who takes the DRA?

Kindergarteners take the DRA in the spring. Grade 1-5 students take the DRA three times a year.
