The 2020 school year is off to a great start in 100% remote learning, but we are following the health guidance, watching COVID case counts and making plans to bring students and staff back into the classroom in a safe manner.
Different groups of students have different needs, therefore returning to the classroom will look a little different.
We are delaying the move to Stage 2 which brings Developmental Kindergarten, STRIVE and Life Skills students back into the classroom five (5) days a week and Developmental Pre-K four (4) days a week, except for those who chose to stay 100% remote.
When we announced the upcoming move to Stage 2 we gave a specific date (November 16) and stated this return is based on current COVID trends in Snohomish County.
In the last several weeks the COVID cases have risen dramatically, and we have decided it is not the right time to bring students back into the buildings.
Delaying the return for these students who receive special education services was not an easy decision, but we feel it is the best thing to do for our students and staff. We will provide an update no later than November 30.
In addition to the amazing volume of community feedback we have received through our Let’s Connect sessions, as part of our decision-making we review several metrics weekly to determine if the time is right for a return to school. At this time, it has been decided in-person learning for all other students will be delayed until after winter break.
When those students return it will be in a hybrid AA/BB model. There will be more information on what those days look like and what a school day will hold, but the general schedule is:
The health, safety, and well-being of our school community remains our top priority. We are following sound protocols aligned with expert health guidance to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect everyone’s health. In preparation for return to school buildings we have developed a Parent COVID-19 Handbook that contains information on how we will be keeping your child safe.
