Welcome back to school, Toucans!
My name is Mrs. Anne Jensen and I am your school counselor. I'm excited for a new school year and I can't wait to meet you all, virtually at first and hopefully in person later in the year. This year certainly won't look like a regular school year, but we all have it in our power to decide that we are going to make the best of it and ask for help when we feel stuck or don't know what to do.
My job as school counselor is different from a private counselor or therapist. A school counselor helps ALL of the students in a school, not just a few. That means that I will be teaching some lessons in all classes, working with some students in small groups, and working with a few students by themselves. I will also attend A LOT of meetings to support you and your learning. One thing that I want to do near the start of school is to learn about how you are feeling about doing school at home again this fall, what makes it hard for you to learn at home, and what we can do to help you. Look for a special survey after school starts. In the meantime, how would you answer the following questions?
What is something that was hard for you during the stay at home time?
Some things that are hard for me during the stay at home time are sitting at my computer all day during the school year, missing a summer family reunion, and not getting to see Woodside students at school. I LOVE teaching classroom lessons and I really miss that!
What is something that ended up being good about the stay at home time?
Some things that ended up being good about staying at home are getting to walk my dog almost every day, getting to work more with other school counselors (on Zoom), and learning to cook new foods.
I can't wait to meet you and I hope you have a FANTASTIC school year. Check out the rest of my school website. There is lots of information for parents and students. Please also let me know if I can do something to help.
