- Woodside Elementary School
- Meet your Teacher
-
Dear Families,
I am very excited to be your child’s first grade teacher! I will work alongside you and the rest of the Woodside community to ensure that your child receives a quality education. My goal is that students will walk away from first grade with multiple different academic and social-emotional strategies that will help build the foundation for future learning.
In our classroom, I focus heavily on building a safe learning community. Throughout the school year, I will emphasize how we are a classroom family. It is the job of each member in our classroom family to support and help one another in order to foster a positive learning environment for everyone. My hope is that students will feel comfortable to make mistakes, so we can all learn and grow from them! Furthermore, we will be working on perseverance, grit, and building a growth mindset. Learning from home will pose challenges at times, but I know that we will be able to work through it when we support one another.
As for me, I began my educational journey at Western Washington University. It was here that I majored in Language, Literacy, and Culture while attaining an ELL (English Language Learner) and Reading endorsement. I completed my student teaching abroad in Guatemala and I have been fortunate to return every year since. After graduating, I have had the opportunity to teach in grades K-2 and as an ELL specialist. However, this will be my third year with first grade! As an educator, I find it essential to teach young students about racial justice and equity through a historical lens. When young students are presented with history, they will be better equipped to understand the present, and move towards making constructive change for the future. When I am not teaching, you can find me on a plane to my next adventure, reading a good book, or enjoying a hike in the great Pacific Northwest!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I can’t wait to meet you all!
Thank you,
Chelsie Nathe
