TOBACCO USE OR POSSESSION (p 28 of student handbook)

The Everett School District promotes and maintains a smoke-free environment. Therefore, students are prohibited from using tobacco products or having tobacco in possession at any time during the school day or at any school-sponsored activities. Before and after school, students are not to use tobacco products in close proximity to school grounds. Violations of tobacco regulations are cumulative on a one-year basis.

Violations will result in the following actions:

    A. First Offense

Short-term suspension of three (3) days. Parent/guardian will be notified. This suspension may be withheld if the student agrees to complete a Tobacco Education and Self-Assessment program at the school. Documentation with the School Resource Officer may occur.

    B. Second Offense

Short-term suspension of six (6) days. Parent/guardian will be notified. This may be reduced by three (3) days if the student agrees to complete a Tobacco Education and Self-Assessment program at the school. Documentation with School Resource Officer may occur.

    C. Subsequent Offenses

Will result in consequences up to and including a long-term suspension from school consisting of up to ninety (90) school days with the possible loss of credit for that current semester. Documentation with School Resource Officer may occur.
