Highly Capable Program

The Highly Capable Program in Everett Public Schools is designed to meet learning needs and challenge students who have advanced thinking and academic abilities. Highly Capable classes are open to students in second, third, fourth and fifth grade.

Students learn and study in self-contained classrooms with an accelerated curriculum that supports higher-level thinking skills. Highly Capable classrooms are held in nine schools in the district, based upon qualified enrollment. The district provides transportation for students who attend a Highly Capable Center that is not their neighborhood school.

For identification and placement in the highly capable program, students go through a testing process.

Students must be referred for highly capable testing by a parent/guardian/teacher/community member by the referral deadline. To refer a student for testing and possible identification/placement in the highly capable program, you must complete the Highly Capable Testing Referral Form.

Regardless of who makes the referral, the parent/guardian must complete, sign, and submit a consent form for their student by the posted deadline.

Highly Capable Program Testing Window:

Testing is complete for placement in the 2025-2026 school year except for those students who joined Everett Public Schools after November 10, 2026. If your student is new to the district, contact the Highly Capable office for information about highly capable testing in June 2026.
