Suicide Prevention

If you are thinking about suicide, have thought about suicide before, or are concerned someone else might be thinking about suicide, please stop and read this.

Help is available. You can reach out for help for yourself or to support someone else. If you are in crisis, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by calling 9-8-8.

  • Press 1 for the Veterans Helpline.
  • Press 2 to connect to a trained Spanish-speaking crisis counselor.
  • Press 3 for affirming support for LGBTQI+ people under 25.
  • Press 4 for the Native and Strong Lifeline.

You can get help by texting “HEAL” to the Crisis Text Line at 741741 or contacting Lifeline Crisis Chat linked below.

If you are under 21, you can call the Teen Link at 866-TEENLINK (866-833-6546) and ask to talk to a peer.

Text 4 help

TXT 4 HELP can be used for when a young person may be experiencing abuse, bullying, family problems, depression, suicidal thoughts, and other crisis. TXT 4 HELP counselors are available 24/7 and can provide support via text and can offer additional suggestions for immediate help regardless of where you are.

Here’s how it works:

  • Text the word “safe” and your current location (address, city, state) to 4HELP (44357).
  • Within seconds, you will receive a message with the closest Safe Place site and phone number for the local youth agency.
  • For immediate help, reply with “2chat” to text interactively with a trained counselor.
