Everett schools offer a very comprehensive athletic program. With strong traditions and competitive teams, there is a high degree of interest and community support for our athletic programs.

Our mission and number one objective is to always support and contribute to the goals and purpose of the educational process. We achieve this by teaching the values of self-discipline, commitment, teamwork, dedication, and hard work. When learned properly, these values assist students by increasing academic preparation skills and achievement levels.

As a coach, there are many expectations associated with your position. It is your responsibility to stay abreast of current trends in your sport as well as the latest safety and risk management standards related to your sport. Your involvement in continuing profession growth activities will reflect your level of commitment to the coaching profession as well as prepare you to be the best coach possible.

Optional Training

Type II Driver License: All coaches are encouraged to get their Type II Driver Certification so that they can drive students to athletic events. The class if offered on-line through the district’s Vector Training portal, previously Safeschools trainings. Directions to obtain your Type II license can be found here. Along with the course, you must provide a driving record abstract to the transportation department and remain current in your First Aid/CPR training. Contact the transportation department at 425-385-4143 if you have questions about your current status or certification process. Beginning in August, the transportation department will pull your driving abstract with your formal permission, free of charge. Please complete this form.

Athletic Forms

The following forms can be used by coaches and parents to make requests, provide information, and manage the risk of athletics. ASB purchase order and fundraising forms--acquire these forms from your school's treasurer.

Incident Accident Report To be completed when a student or athlete is injured on Everett Public Schools property or if an athlete must miss practice or game due to an injury sustained in a team activity.

Student Permission to Drive : To be filled out by parents and submitted to the high school athletic director if the parent wishes to allow their student to drive to or from a contest.
Release for Adult to Transport Student : To be filled out by adult driver to transport student home from a contest.

Field Trips

Day and Overnight Field Trip Information : To be completed by coaches when requesting an overnight trip for contests, including post-season competition. It must be submitted at least 45 days in advance. Exceptions to the 45 day requirement can be made for state playoff competition.

Washington State Coaches Association Membership

Per the ECEA collective bargaining agreement, the district will pay for membership in the WSCA. Coaches will register themselves at www.WashCoach.net. You may go to this link as well (LINK). Coaches must register by October 16, 2026, assuming there is agreement between the ECEA and District. This allows time for payment to be processed and passes to be delivered for fall post-season games.

Transportation Requests

Depending on when a bus is used for extra-curricular activities, the district is charged either a non-conflicting or a conflicting rate. A conflicting rate is about double the hourly cost of a non-conflicting rate bus. This year the conflicting rate time is 4:00 p.m. This means any bus scheduled to arrive to pick up a team prior to 4:00 p.m. will cost twice as much as a bus picking up a team after 4:00 p.m. When scheduling a bus, please keep this in mind and avoid the conflicting rate when possible. However, it is more important to get your team to the contest on time so do not sacrifice team preparation. Dani Mundell will prepare transportation requests for the middle school teams. When possible, schools will utilize a shuttle system to save money on transportation. Regardless of your school’s end time, all departure times will be the same to eliminate teams arriving at schools too early.

Check with your athletic secretary for the due date for transportation requests. The secretary will enter all trips into the system. Remember, IT IS THE COACH’S RESPONSIBILITY TO BE SURE ALL TRIPS ARE COVERED.

Pre-season team/parent meetings

All head coaches are required to host a pre-season parent information meeting. There are many great benefits to holding this meeting. An outline for a pre-season parent meeting is included as an attachment. Use the outline as a guide and add items for your meeting agenda. Parents want to know your plan for the program and their students, so give this important meeting the time and attention it deserves. Be sure to highlight punch cards with your parents.

Volunteer Coaches

To be a volunteer coach, the following must take place.

Volunteers must be approved by the district BEFORE working with teams and athletes. Apply on-line
All coaching volunteers must pass finger print screening. Current volunteers must meet the fingerprinting requirement. Costs will be reimbursed by the district.
Meet with the building athletic director before working with teams and athletes.
Meet WIAA coaches education requirements including first aid/CPR certification.
Head coaches will be selective about who volunteers.

Everett Athletics Awards Night

This year’s event to honor our district’s student athletes will be held on Thursday, June 3rd, at 6:30 p.m. at Everett High School. All middle and high school coaches are strongly encouraged to attend this event to support their athletes. The athletes appreciate the support and it builds a positive image in the community. Please dress appropriately. Do not wear shorts, blue jeans, t-shirts or hats. The honored athletes dress very well for this event. Coaches should also.

Thank you for your effort and commitment to the student-athletes in our district. It is a great opportunity to educate our students on the important things in life. Remember that life lessons and the growth of our students takes precedence over wins and losses. Keep things in perspective. Enjoy the rest of your summer and I will see you all very soon.
