December 1, 2025: The roof is dried-in over the entire Phase I area, with about 70% of that being the permanent roof and the remaining portion is the vapor barrier only. Masonry is scheduled to begin today. The continuous insulation layer is about 80% complete. Windows have been installed on the East side and are progressing counterclockwise around the classroom wing. Work to rough-in the conduits and piping continues into the library and admin spaces. All air handlers have been lifted into place and are being set. Temporary heat is on in the classroom wing. Sheetrock installation is beginning on the second floor of the classroom areas with the mud & tape progressing on the first floor below with paint just beginning. The electrical switchgear has been set in place.
November 3, 2025: Phase I structural steel is in place and metal deck is installed. For this phase, one floor slab pour remains for the mechanical mezzanine above the kitchen. The roof is complete over the classroom wing, and it is being installed above the library and administrative area. Drywall starts this week on the 1st floor of the classroom wing and rough-ins are about 60% complete on the floor above. The Snohomish PUD transmission line shift was completed as planned, enabling sufficient access to continue work on the North wall of the building. The continuous insulation layer is nearly complete on the classroom wing and temporary heat will begin soon. The asphalt base has been installed in the bus loop and gravel around the building to harden the site and prepare for the coming rainy season.
October 1, 2025: Steel erection is shifting to the final location for this first phase of the project, the kitchen/cafeteria area. Floor slabs have been poured throughout the classroom portion of the building. Where the floor slabs are in, rough-ins are about 60% complete on the first floor and are just starting on the 2nd floor. The insulation has begun on the mechanical mezzanine. The vapor barrier for the roofing system serves to ‘dry-in’ the building and this step has just begun on the classroom wing. Snohomish PUD is planning to relocate the transmission lines adjacent to the new building the weekend of 10/4-5 which will allow clearance to complete the exterior work on that North side of the building.
September 3, 2025: The first slab-on-metal-deck took place today, encompassing a little more than half of the second floor of the classroom wing. Steel erection continues in the area of the administrative office and library above it. The electric vaults were set, and the service area was restored to functional use prior to the start of school. The plumber and sheet metal contractors have placed hangars in the ceiling space above the first floor of the classroom wing. A coordination meeting was held today with the subcontractors for the building envelope.
August 8, 2025: The final slab-on-grade concrete pour for Phase I took place this morning and the dumpster area retaining walls were poured as well. Steel erection continues. The sanitary sewer tie-in is complete. Layout for wall framing is underway. Work to set electric vaults is planned for next week, along with extending the gas line to the new building. The city has completed their water line work.
July 1, 2025: Soil has been backfilled against the foundation walls with plumbing and electrical rough-ins continuing in preparation for placement of the slab on grade. Foundation work is starting in the cafeteria and kitchen areas. The city will begin their water line project next week and plans to wrap it up in early August.
June 2, 2025: Foundations for the first phase of the building are nearly complete, and the stem walls are being placed. Once in place, backfill can be placed against them to establish the floor slab rough grade. Plumbing and electrical deep underground is going in. The grease trap has been placed, and the bus loop is at rough grade. The project team has coordinated summer work with the City of Everett since they plan to complete work on both Charles Street and Federal Avenue while school is out. The sequencing will allow all planned work to continue.
May 5, 2025: The early phase demolition is complete. Foundations for the building are being placed, as well as the underground plumbing and electrical. Water and sewer work on Charles Avenue has taken place.
April 2, 2025: The bus drop-off/pickup area has been moved to Charles Avenue. The building permits have been issued and demolition of the phase I areas (gymnasium, library and two adjacent classrooms) has begun. Excavation for the basement is also underway.
February 3, 2025: The school board awarded the project to Cornerstone GC, Inc., at their January 14, 2025 meeting. Once the OSPI D-10 form is received, we can finalize the contract with them. Preliminary planning is underway for mobilization and the early steps of the project. Separately, the school district’s abatement of the Phase I part of the building is taking place this week. This preps those portions of the building (gym, library and two adjacent classrooms) for the demolition that will clear the way for the new building.
January 2, 2025: Over winter break, the underground data cabling and phone lines were moved so they are not in the way of the new construction. Work is underway on the OSPI D-9 form.
