Choice Programs

Choice programs give families the opportunity to choose the educational program that is best fit for their student. They are designed for and first offered to students who are within the program's school boundary but are available to all Everett Public School students, regardless of the student's zoned neighborhood school. These offerings will allow all students, including our economically disadvantaged and exceptional needs students, the opportunity to participate in creative learning experiences that would typically be unavailable to them.

The following programs require a separate program application:

  • International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
  • Two-Way Dual Language Programs at Emerson and Silver Lake Elementary Schools (lottery process for this program is outlined below)
  • Jefferson Lighthouse Elementary Cooperative Program (lottery process for this program is outlined below)

Choice Program Lottery Application

For the Dual Language Programs and Lighthouse Elementary Cooperative Programs only.

During the yearly Open Application Period, applications will be accepted during a pre-designated time period. Applications received beyond the official application period will be placed on the waiting list in the order in which they are received. Enrollment opens in late Winter.

Choice Program Selections

One application per student may be submitted. A maximum of two Choice programs per application may be selected. Applicants rank first and second choices in order of preference. First and second choices do not have equal chances of being selected. Selection of a second choice does not decrease a student's chance of being assigned to their first choice. Choices may be any combination of programs or schools, with the exception of Duplicate Program section below.

  • Programs with limited numbers of available seats may not have any second-choice students assigned in the lottery.
  • One application Choice program change will be allowed after submission and before the published deadline dates.

Lottery Selection Information and Process

The Choice program lottery will be conducted in spring of each year (usually mid-April.) Within the lottery selection process, there are priorities to select applicants. Priority will be given to applicants in the school building attendance area. The number of seats available for each program is calculated each year after reviewing current enrollment and projections.

If a program has more first choice applicants than available seats, applicants are assigned through the lottery selection process according to approved preferences in the following order:

  1. Resident student at the school where the program is located
  2. Siblings of resident students already in the program
  3. In district, out of attendance area students
  4. In district, out of attendance area siblings of students in the program
  5. Student(s) of an Everett Public Schools employee
