Dear Silver Lake Parents & Guardians,
Welcome back. I hope you and your families had a restful break and are rejuvenated for the upcoming year. Like all of you, this unusual summer impacted my family, but it did not stop us from enjoying our time together and maximizing every moment of family time. We went camping, fed animals through our car window at Olympic Game Farm, and sweat through several hikes to see lakes, waterfalls, and lookout towers with an eight-month-old baby strapped in my backpack. Regardless of what challenges or closures laid in front of us, my family and I maximized the precious time we had. As we start this year’s journey, it is important that we as a Silver Lake community maximize every moment we have with student learning, engagement, and growth.
As we start the year with remote learning, our staff have been busy learning, adapting, and preparing how we will teach and engage our students. Attached is a model of our daily schedule. Grade-level schedules may slightly differ and will be posted on your teacher’s Canvas site. We will be using the Virtual Learning Key Four model to ensure our students’ success.
Virtual Classroom: We will have one single platform (Canvas site) that you and your students will access assignments, activities, dates, tools, expectations, and other important communications.
Creation & Collaboration: We will be using tools that let our students and teachers collaborate (two-way feedback) on assignments and learning.
Synchronous Engagement: We will have daily Zoom sessions (live instruction) for whole group instruction, small group support, and teacher feedback.
Asynchronous Engagement: We will have pre-recorded video and multi-media that students can access at any time to support and enhance their learning.

Classroom/Teacher Assignments: All students will move up to their new grade level and with a new teacher. These assignments will be viewable starting August 29 via HAC (Home Access Center) EPS HAC. Many of your teachers may begin contacting you before that date to start creating positive relationships with students.
Guests & Volunteers: To minimize the spread of COVID-19, we will not be utilizing parent volunteers until further notice. We will make an announcement when we are able to accept help from our amazing families and community members again.
Chromebooks Expectations: Every student will be provided a Chromebook. If you currently have one, please keep it as we do not need to update any systems. Reach out to our Family Technology Support if you need technical assistance. We will be passing out Chromebooks to students who currently do not have one on September 8th. We will have a drive-through pick-up service on that date with specific times for each grade level.
Welcome Back Drive-Thru: In order to prepare students, we will be providing Mustang Learning Binders to every student. The binder will have basic supplies, a student agenda, our EPS Student’s Rights and Responsibilities handbook, and student growth tracking sheets. Click here to access SLE’s Student Handbook. Here is an updated School Supply List for our 2020-21 Distance Learning. Please use this list to purchase any additional school supplies. During our Welcome Back Drive-Thru, we will be passing out these Learning Binders with any needed Chromebooks. Some of our teachers will be there to wave and greet your students.
