FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS: I miss you! Check out Google Classroom. MOST OF ALL, TAKE CARE!! :)
AS OF MARCH 17, 2020, Please enter Google Classroom for activities and information.
Note regarding School Closure:
During the mandated closure, directions for the weekly activities will be posted on this classroom website via the link to left: School Closure Activities. Students can access the lessons and any relevant directions, documents, links and/or slides via Google Classroom, which we've used multiple times in class already this year. My goal is to keep my English students engaged in learning and provide opportunities for growth. (See Resources.) I will review documents students submit online and provide individualized feedback via comments in Google Classroom. I will be checking my email and will respond to parent and student inquiries (see the link to email below).
BTW, In this school district closure environment, “assignment” and “classwork” are just the terms that Google Classroom software uses to describe where students can go to find the learning engagement materials. Due dates are suggested pacing and not required due dates.
I know Gateway Families are all in different situations and that each should feel free to use the learning engagement materials I’m providing to whatever extent possible. If your situation prohibits you from doing so, the learning engagement materials will not affect a student's grade.
Together with patience, creativity, and flexibility, we will make this a meaningful learning experience! Please take care of your family and stay healthy. :)

Welcome to another fantastic year!
I LOVE GATEWAY! My children were students, and I was amazed at the fabulous education they gained. I feel fortunate and excited to be teaching here. This is my third year teaching 8th and 7th ELA. This year I will be teaching ELA 8 to 7th-grade honor students and ELA 7.
A bit of history about me... I grew up in Grandview, Washington. I attended the University of Washington after high school and graduated with a degree in English and teaching. Later I received my Master’s from Seattle Pacific University in Reading and Language Arts. I taught in Salzburg Austria for a couple of years after college; spent many years teaching and in leadership at Monroe High School, and then taught at Sky Valley Education Center for several years (an alternative school/PPP) before coming to Gateway. I have lots of experience teaching students of all levels and every end of the learning spectrum. I am AP and Pre-AP trained and have taught AP courses for many years. I have also taught College in the High School for EVCC.
My husband is an adjunct math teacher at LWIT and my two children: Hunter (20) is a graduate of Jackson High School and is attending Seattle University; Hannah (18) is a senior at Jackson High School--education is our middle name! :)
I am very excited to have your student in class and am looking forward to a year full of learning, growth, and development.
