Welcome to another fantastic year!

I LOVE GATEWAY! My children were students, and I was amazed at the fabulous education they gained. I feel fortunate and excited to be teaching here.  This is my sixth year teaching 8th ELA.  

A bit of history about me... I grew up in Grandview, Washington.  I attended the University of Washington after high school and graduated with a degree in English and teaching.  Later, I received my Master’s from Seattle Pacific University in Reading and Language Arts.  I taught in Salzburg, Austria for a couple of years after college, spent many years teaching and in leadership at Monroe High School, and then taught at Sky Valley Education Center for several years (an alternative school/PPP)  before coming to Gateway.  I have lots of experience teaching students of all levels and at every end of the learning spectrum.  I am AP and Pre-AP trained and have taught AP courses for many years.  I have also taught College in the High School for EVCC.

My husband has retired from Microsoft and is now a certified math teacher, and my two children:  Hunter (23) is a graduate of Jackson High School and has graduated from Seattle University; Hannah (21) is also a graduate of Jackson High School and graduated from Boise State University--education is our middle name! :)

I am very excited to have your student in class and am looking forward to a year full of learning, growth, and development.  My teaching philosophy is one of warm structure, rigor, and fun.  Looking forward to getting to know your family better this year as we delight in learning-- raise a book to 2022-23!
