Transition to Kindergarten
Transition to Kindergarten (TK) is for children who are not currently in an early learning program and are scheduled to begin kindergarten in the fall. This program will focus on foundational academic, social and self-help skills to jumpstart qualifying students toward success in school.
Students will be screened in mid-November to mid-December and may qualify based on academic and social-emotional needs.
To be eligible to screen for Transition to Kindergarten, children must:
- be 5 years old by midnight on August 31 of the year they enter kindergarten
- live within the boundaries of Everett Public Schools
- not be currently enrolled in an early learning full or part-time program, such as: licensed childcare, preschool, co-operative preschool, faith-based preschool, ECEAP, Head Start, etc.
- demonstrate academic and/or social-emotional needs through a screening process
Transition to Kindergarten classrooms will be located at several of the elementary schools in our district. Every year, sites are determined based on enrollment and space. Qualifying students might not attend Transition to Kindergarten at their home school.
Families whose children have been screened will be informed if their child qualifies for Transition to Kindergarten and their TK school by mid-January. The first day of school will be communicated to families in January.
