AI Committee

Purpose

The Committee on AI in Schools plays a crucial role in navigating the complexities of AI in education, ensuring that these technologies are used responsibly and effectively to benefit all students. The committee on AI in Everett Public Schools is a diverse group of teachers and administrators in our district that will be dedicated to exploring the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in educational settings. A goal of the committee will be working to ensure AI technologies are implemented in ways that enhance learning outcomes, promote equity, and adhere to ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Establishing guidance in evaluating AI tools: Assessing the educational value, reliability, and potential risks of AI tools and platforms used in classrooms.
  • Developing Guidelines: Creating comprehensive guidelines for the ethical use of AI in schools. These guidelines focus on privacy protection, data security, and the prevention of algorithmic bias.
  • Supporting Teachers: Providing resources and training for teachers to effectively integrate AI technologies into their curriculum. The committee ensures that educators are equipped to use AI tools in a way that complements their teaching and supports student learning.
  • Monitoring Impact: Regularly reviewing the impact of AI in educational environments, gathering data on its effectiveness, and adjusting as necessary. The committee will be committed to a continuous feedback loop, ensuring that AI enhances rather than hinders the educational experience.
  • Advising Policy: Providing recommendations on school board policies related to AI in education. The committee’s insights help shape regulations that balance innovation with the ethical considerations of AI use
