Welcome to Forest View Elementary School Counseling

  • .
Welcome to Mrs. McNeal's Office! I am Alison McNeal, the School Counselor and I am excited for the new school year! This is my third year at Forest View and I have met so many wonderful families already and look forward to meeting more.
As part of the school counseling program, I will be seeing your child's class at least twice this year during class counseling lessons. Each grade level is introduced to the topics appropriate to their developmental needs. This year, Kelso is back to help our Kindergarten through second graders learn about Conflict Management (Fall). They will also be learning about safety during our Child Protection Unit (Feb). Third through fifth grade will be focusing on Bullying Prevention skills (Fall) and all students will be taught Second Step's Social Emotional Learning curriculum throughout the year with their classroom teacher.
There will also be an opportunity for small groups called "Falcons Club" starting around January. Topics include 'Anxiety, Stress, Worry', 'Emotion Management', 'Changing Family', 'Social Skills', and 'Friendship Skills'. You, your child, and/or your child's teacher may recommend to join one of the Falcons Club and a permission form will get sent home before Falcons Club begins. These small groups run about 6-8 weeks.
Parent/Guardian consultations are an important part of my job as well. So, if you have specific concerns about your child which may impact their school success, please contact me to set up an appointment. Please leave a message if I do not answer and I will return your call usually within 24-48 hours.
A little bit about me... I have been in education for over 25 years, starting as an elementary teacher and then counseling for about the last 15 years plus. I grew up in Seattle and graduated from Seattle Pacific University. I taught in Las Vegas and started counseling on Maui (Yes, I do miss the sunny warm weather!) before heading back to Washington State. I love spending time with my family, watching sports, being crafty, and traveling.
