Grades & More
Grades are an important way for families and students to stay informed about academic progress throughout the school year. Through our secure online portal, families can view current grades, progress reports, and report cards for each student. This access makes it easier to track assignments, monitor progress, and celebrate achievements. Staying connected to your child’s learning helps ensure success and provides opportunities to address challenges early.
Elementary Progress ReportEverett Public Schools schedules face to face parent conferences in October and March to allow teachers and parents to partner in supporting student progress. In addition to the fall and spring conferences and updates directly from the classroom teacher throughout the school year, a formal progress report is sent home in February and June. Parents will receive printed report cards in English unless their language to home is Vietnamese, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, or Marshallese.
All report cards can be accessed digitally through the ParentVUE app. The app allows the digital report cards to be translated into additional languages. Parents can opt in to receive electronic report cards only by logging into ParentVUE, selecting My Account, and checking the Go Paperless box.
In these reports teachers share progress of student growth as measured by grade level standards in mathematics, communications, reading, writing, science, social studies, fitness, health, visual arts, and music. Washington State adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in literacy and mathematics.
In each area the year standards will be listed. Each semester has clear instructional focus and those assessed areas will have a score reflecting a student's current performance level. Teachers will also indicate if a student has made significant, steady or minimal progress over the course of a given semester.
Elementary teachers also provide feedback on how well students exhibit the 21st Century Skills.
Secondary Report Cards
Report cards at the secondary level reflect the overall score for each of the classes the student is taking. High School students are required to complete 24 credits to graduate. Some students who choose to take accelerated courses in Middle School may have some High School credits when they enter 9th grade.
Course grades are determined by the teacher and are reflected as typical A-F grades on the report card. This allows for Grade Point Averages (GPAs) to be calculated in ways that are still standard for most colleges, universities, and trade schools. In the classroom, however, you may see some classes using traditional A-F grading and others using modified 4-point rubric scales, or moving towards standards based grading. Students in classes using 4-point scales still receive a standard letter grade on their report card.
Paper copies of Report Cards will be mailed home in early February and after school gets out in June.
Digital copies will also be available in the ParentVUE and StudentVUE apps and can be translated in the app to other languages. Parents can opt in to receive electronic report cards only by logging into ParentVUE, selecting My Account, and checking the Go Paperless box.
