Employee Compensation and Certification

The Employee Certification and Compensation (C&C) team is here to help you navigate your pay and elements of your education and experience that have a direct impact to your placement on your position’s salary schedule.

Different groups have different rules and documents as to how your placement is determined.  Upon hire, you should have received documentation pertinent to your position requesting any documentation that could determine your placement.

Certification

All certificated employees are responsible for meeting the requirements to having a valid, current Washington State Educator Certificate or Temporary Permit for the grade level, subjects, or position for which they have been assigned.

  • It is important for certificated employees to know the expiration date of their certificate and allow time for the renewal process, tracking progress on OSPI’s website and check in with OSPI if there are concerns.  An expired certificate results in removal from the classroom and placed in a no-pay status. Be sure you are taking early action to avoid delays - OSPI always has a backlog at the beginning of each school year.

  • Certificated employees must also have a valid state endorsement in the subject they teach.  This includes requirements for CTE.  If a teacher is teaching out of his/her endorsed area, the principal will work with the teacher to create an out-of endorsement plan of assistance.

  • It is the responsibility of each certificated employee to forward a copy of their valid certificate to the Certification and Compensation (C&C) team to update district records.  Email your school's C&C support coordinator directly, or HR Records

The certificate or temporary permit must be on file with the OSPI Data Management Office prior to the 1st contracted work day.

  • Renew a Washington state continuing teacher, administrator, or educational staff associate certificate
  • Check certificate, permit, and application status
  • Apply for re-issuance of residency teacher certificates

Contracts

CERTIFICATED -  There are three types of contracts: Continuing, Provisional and Leave Replacement.  A leave replacement contract is valid for one year or semester.  If you have signed a letter of intent, you will receive a contract once you submit your valid certificate and your hire is approved by the Board.  Contracts are issued in the late spring for the following school year.

There are three categories of contracts: Base, Tri/Enrichment, and Supplemental.  Contracts are currently issued electronically via Employee Online and you will receive an email to your work email address and home email address notifying you when your contract has been issued.  When you log into Employee Online you can read, print (for your records), and electronically sign and submit your acceptance of the contract.  Contracts must be signed and submitted within ten days of the date of issuance.  All new hire certificated employee contracts will reflect the B+0/00 placement on the schedule and a new contract will not be issued until salary placement has been finalized.  However, we will ensure placement is accurate based on the information we have at the time of issuance.

The annual employee salary is paid in twelve (12) equal installments from September through August.  Salaries for mid-year hires are annualized and paid equal installments over the remaining number of months through August.

Placement verification can be found in the Employee Online portal by navigating in the menu to Personal Information -> Job Information -> Current Position.
