Maintenance & Operations
The mission of the Everett Public Schools Maintenance & Operations Department is to provide a warm, safe and dry physical environment that supports student learning, employee morale and productivity, and protect taxpayer investment in buildings and grounds.
Areas of Responsibility
The Maintenance Department shall be responsible for the care, maintenance, and operational integrity of all District facilities, grounds, and designated equipment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Building Systems Maintenance
The inspection, maintenance, repair, and replacement of building systems and components, including electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; roofing; flooring; wall surfaces; alarm systems; fire suppression systems; intercom systems; and District-owned vehicles, excluding school buses.
- Custodial Services
The provision and supervision of custodial services for all school buildings and administrative facilities to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
- Grounds Maintenance
The maintenance and upkeep of all District grounds, including lawn care; athletic fields; landscaped areas and flowerbeds; parking lots and paved surfaces; weed control; and snow and ice removal.
- Logistics and Inventory Management
The receipt, delivery, distribution, and storage of District supplies, materials, and equipment.
The Department Maintains
- 18 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, 4 high schools, the Everett Memorial Stadium complex, the Everett Civic Auditorium and 6 district support facilities
- 367 acres of lawns, fields, wetlands and wetland buffers
- 64 acres of roofs
- 78 acres of parking lots, paved walkways and play areas
- 42 acres of carpet and tile
- 5 acres of gym flooring

Maintenance & Operation Supervisors are on an "on call rotation" for after-hour emergencies.

Volunteer Use
Everett Public Schools wants each school to be a welcoming part of each community. Parents and community groups are encouraged to take an active role in meeting the physical needs of each school. Groups interested in undertaking a project such as installing a play toy, developing and maintaining a garden, or painting a mural should first discuss the idea with the building principal who will then contact the Maintenance & Operations staff. The Maintenance & Operations staff will be able to provide technical and regulatory advice and may be able to provide materials as well as some of the needed labor for the completion of the project.
