Planning ahead: 2026-27 student calendar update

Everett Public Schools is planning ahead for the 2026-27 school year and would like to share potential start dates to support family planning. 

At this time, Everett Public Schools is planning for students in grades 1-12 to start school on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. 

Kindergarten students would then begin school the following week, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. 

These dates are not final. The official student calendar is part of collective bargaining, which is expected to occur over the summer. 

Based on the current contract language, school would begin on the Wednesday before Labor Day. In 2026, Labor Day falls on Monday, September 7. The Wednesday before Labor Day is September 2. 

We are sharing this information now to help families and staff begin planning for the fall. We will share confirmed dates as soon as they are finalized.

Are these the official first days of school? 
No. These dates are not final. The official student calendar is part of collective bargaining and will be finalized later this summer. 

Why is the district sharing dates if they are not finalized? 
We recognize that families and staff often make plans well in advance. Sharing anticipated dates supports early planning while remaining transparent about the approval process. 

Why would school start before Labor Day? 
Under the current contract language, the school year begins on the Wednesday before Labor Day. In 2026, that date is September 2. 

When will the student calendar be finalized? 
The student calendar is expected to be finalized during collective bargaining this summer. Once confirmed, we will communicate the official dates with families and staff right away. 

Will kindergarten always start later than other grades? 
Kindergarten often begins after grades 1-12 to support a smooth transition for our youngest learners. The anticipated start date for kindergarten for the 2026-27 school year is Tuesday, September 8.  

What about dates for breaks, holidays, and parent-teacher conferences? When will those be available? 
Dates for scheduled breaks, holidays, conference days, and other key events are included as part of the full student calendar. Because the student calendar is part of collective bargaining, those dates will be finalized during the summer along with the official first day of school.
