Seahawks promote girls flag football at Everett Memorial Stadium
The Seattle Seahawks brought the 12s energy to Everett Memorial Stadium in support of girls flag football.
Jackson High School (JHS) versus Squalicum High School was selected for a Seahawks Girls Flag Football Takeover on Jan. 7. For the second year, the Seahawks have visited four high school gamedays across the state to promote and amplify the sport.
At the same time as the JHS game, Ferndale High School and Monroe High School competed. The coach of the winning team from those games was awarded Coach of the Game, which included a $1,000 donation to their program.
Coach of the Game winners:
- Squalicum High School
- Monroe High School
The goal of the takeovers is to bring Lumen Field energy to high school gamedays. Fans enjoyed free giveaways, appearances by Seahawks dancers, the Blue Thunder drumline, and the team’s iconic mascot, Blitz.
Also in attendance was former Seahawks tackle Garry Gilliam, who is best known for his memorable touchdown catch in overtime from punter Jon Ryan during the 2014 NFC Championship Game, helping secure the team’s victory. Gilliam met with each team prior to their game starting to share inspirational words and hand out T-shirts.
Girls flag football is in its inaugural season in Everett Public Schools, with teams at JHS, Everett High School, and Cascade High School.
