Helpful Websites for Educators
- The Center for Change in Transitional Service is a great resource for students and families. This website provides all of the information that you need while planning for life after high school.
- The Council for Exceptional Children is dedicated to improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides professional development, advocates for individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.
- Intervention Central provides academic interventions in the areas of general education, reading, writing, math, study and organization.
- Autism Modules provides instructional strategies and interventions specific to academic, behavior and adaptive needs.
- The Iris Center provides best practice modules and case studies for the following areas: accommodations, assistive technology, behavior and classroom management, collaboration, content instruction, differentiated instruction, disability, diversity, learning strategies, math, RTI, reading, literacy, language arts, related services, school improvement/leadership, and transition.

The Northwest ESD also has a monthly course calendar available for professional development opportunities.

The Autism Modules website provides applicable and accessible information on autism to educators, other professionals, and families who support students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
There are currently 37 modules that include a wide range of topics on academic, behavior and adaptive needs. Paraeducators who are interested may access the website and create a free account. The modules are written by experts across the U.S. and are designed to promote understanding of, respect for, and equality of persons with ASD.
We hope this site provides ongoing professional development to interested paraeducators responsible for assisting in the delivery of instruction. Please contact Special Services for more information on how to receive clock hours for this professional development opportunity.

Augmentative Alternative Communication
AAC 101
AAC Modeling: An AAC system is like learning a new language. Teachers and paraeducators of the student, who is learning an AAC system, can use modeling to help the student learn language in a natural way. Contact your school SLP and/or consult with the AT specialist for training and/or support with modeling.
