Superintendent Bio

Dr. Ian B. Saltzman has served as Superintendent of Everett Public Schools in Washington since 2019, leading a diverse urban district of approximately 20,000 students north of Seattle. Under his leadership, the district has undergone a major cultural shift, launched a new strategic plan, and strengthened its focus on student achievement.   

With more than 35 years in public education, Dr. Saltzman’s career reflects his commitment to equity, academic excellence, and building strong partnerships with families and communities. 
 
Prior to joining Everett, he served in Palm Beach County Schools, Florida, as Regional Superintendent, Area Superintendent, Area Director of School Accountability, and principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. He earned a reputation for improving school performance and expanding opportunities for students across diverse communities.  
 
Dr. Saltzman holds a Doctorate in Education and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Nova Southeastern University, along with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Special Education from Florida State University. 
 
A nationally recognized leader, Dr. Saltzman is the recipient of the 2025 Robert J. Handy Most Effective Administrator Award and has been named a “Top 25 Superintendent to Watch.” He has also received multiple distinctions for literacy, counseling, and Career and Technical Education leadership. Active in professional and civic organizations such as Chiefs for Change and multiple Washington State Governor’s task forces, Dr. Saltzman frequently presents on strategic planning, equity, and innovative instruction.  
 
Dr. Saltzman is a lifelong champion for students, committed to ensuring every learner succeeds in college, career, and life. He believes achievement is possible for all when students are given equitable access and strong support. With energy and vision, he leads with purpose, turning public education into a winning opportunity for every child. 

Superintendent's Goals

Performance goals are established between the board and the superintendent in concert with the district's strategic plan and related operating and leadership priorities. Performance expectations are contained as well in the board policy and related procedure addressing superintendent standards-based evaluation.
