Appearance

• Green/brown stems with leaves.
• Small yellow-green flowers in clusters.
• They grow little seeds that look like helicopters.
• Large palm-shaped leaves

Habitat

• They mostly grow at streamsides and on disturbed sites.

Growth Habit

• In the spring and summer the leaves are green.
• In the fall the leaves are red, gold and green.
• When it is winter all the leaves are dead on the ground and the tree is bare.

Natural History

• Natives made tools and utensils of wood, and buckets from the bark.
• Now people use Big Leaf Maple for flooring, furniture, musical instruments, and for lumber.
