Appearance

  • Leaves: small, 1-2 inches long with smooth edges
  • Flowers: at least as broad as long
  • Fruit : berries, bright red
  • Plant: 3-12 feet. small and medium size

Habitat

  • Naturally grows: the moister forests
  • Grows: wide spread but never in bunches

Growth Habit

  • A Huckleberry is a perennial shrub plant. It changes during different seasons by the leaves changing blaze orange and yellow in the fall. After it turns bright orange the Huckleberry goes deciduous.

Natural History

  • Used by animals: the birds use Huckleberry as food and help dispersing the seeds
  • Used by humans: Flathead Indians used the plant as medicine
