ANNOUNCEMENTS

  •

    North Community;

    When we return to school after Spring Break, your son or daughter will take the Smarter Balanced state assessments in English/Language Arts (ELA) and Math. All eighth grade students will continue to take the Measurement of Student Progress in Science.

    The assessment window is April 12, 2016 through May 13, 2016. It is very important that your son or daughter attend school each day and arrive to school on time when his or her grade level is testing. An assessment calendar is provided for you on the back of this letter.

    Last year, our students tested on specific days with tests lasting nearly an entire school day. This year, our staff looked for ways to reduce the stress of testing by incorporating our students’ daily routine and their regular teachers into our testing schedule. As a result, our students will be testing with ELA and Math teachers that they see every day. During the assessment window, we will follow our daily bell schedules. By students testing with their ELA and Math teachers, students will avoid testing burn out because they will test in smaller chunks. We are

    hoping this will reduce test anxiety, and maximize their energy and attention each day. Our students have been working very hard this year. We believe these testing adjustments will help many of our students to show what they know and to do their very best on the state

    assessment.

    Thank you for continuing to work with us to make sure your child is successful. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to better

    support your child. We want your child to leave us with a solid foundation of skills and a future full of opportunities. If you have any questions, please call North Middle School at 425 385-4800.

  • Golden Acorn and Outstanding Educator Awards

    Each year PTA recognizes volunteers and educators who have given outstanding, continued and dedicated service to our children and school community through Golden Acorn and Outstanding Educator awards. The Golden Acorn award recognizes a volunteer who has given outstanding service to our children and school community. The Outstanding Educator award goes to a teacher, assistant, custodian, bus driver, administrator or community member who goes beyond the normal expectations of their jobs to make the learning environment fun, beneficial and challenging for our students. This is your opportunity to participate in the selection of our award recipients by nominating candidates for consideration by our award committee. To nominate someone for an award, complete the nomination form   and return it to North Middle, Attn: PTA Awards Committee, in a sealed envelope. Golden Acorn award recipients must be current PTA members. You may attach an additional sheet if needed, and you may also email your nominations to Lynnette Smith at ivysfolks@yahoo.com or Mariko Thompson at marikosmith@yahoo.com
