    Multiple assessments allow students to demonstrate their understanding in a variety of contexts. Formative and summative assessments are a part of the structure of the course.

    The course provides frequent and ongoing formative assessments to ensure each student has mastered the content and is prepared to move forward in the coursework.


     

    ASSESSMENT APPROPRIATENESS

    EVIDENCE– Course items(4):

    All OnlineHS courses are consistent with the standards and practices of the Everett public schools. This means that there is a variety of formative assessments that receive feedback to help guide the learner to success on a summative assessment that is a direct demonstration of the students understanding.

    The assessments are appropriate for the online environment as contained & delivered in the Blackboard Learning Management System. These include both auto-scored items such as quizzes/tests,  and manually scored items such as assignments, discussions, and the use of other pedagogical constructivist opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding.

    Where applicable, OnlineHS Courses contain the Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs) and Classroom-Based Performance Assessments (CBPAs) external web site as required by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction external web site.

    “Authentic Assessment” is a strategy that requires students to do realistic or “real world” tasks that directly reveal their ability to think critically and to apply and synthesize their knowledge. In each course there is foundational knowledge that, provides scaffolding for authentic assessments that are personalized to the student, and demonstrate meaningful application of essential knowledge, concepts, and skills.
