Natural Leaders//Lideres Naturales
Natural Leaders are warm, caring social persons who serve as multi-cultural bridges between students, families, communities and schools.
Here at Hawthorne Elementary, Natural Leaders are parents who have been trained to serve as school volunteers and leaders in their community. Natural Leaders meet once a month to spend time together, plan events, sign up to volunteer, and discuss strategies and ideas for making school a better place for all kids. Any parent, grandparent, or guardian can be a Natural Leader!
Last year, the Natural Leaders volunteered making and selling popcorn, helping out in the cafeteria, classrooms, and at recess, helping out at Field Day, and making copies and preparing materials for teachers at weekly Cut and Chat sessions. They also held a clothing exchange, participated in Family Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) nights, and put together a wonderful Multicultural Night fundraiser that included food, dance performances, and a cultural fair.
Currently, meetings are held in English and Spanish, with Arabic and Russian/Ukrainian interpretation. However, the program welcomes parents of all cultural backgrounds, and we would be happy to arrange for interpretations in other languages as needed. You don't have to speak English to be a Natural Leader!
The next Natural Leaders meeting will be Friday, November 17 at 8:30 am in the Hawthorne Cafeteria. Spanish, Arabic, Marshallese, and Russian interpreters will be provided.
