Natural Leaders are warm, caring social persons who serve as multi-cultural bridges between students, families, communities and schools.
Here at Hawthorne Elementary, Natural Leaders are parents who have been trained to serve as school volunteers and leaders in their community. Natural Leaders meet once a month to spend time together, plan events, sign up to volunteer, and discuss strategies and ideas for making school a better place for all kids. Any parent, grandparent, or guardian can be a Natural Leader!
Last year, the Natural Leaders volunteered many hours to our school. They helped out in the cafeteria, in classrooms, and at recess. They also made copies and prepared materials for teachers at weekly Cut and Chat sessions. So many other activities were planned, such as a Multi-Cultural Celebration, that were unfortunately canceled due to the COVID-19 Closure.
Currently, meetings are held in English and Spanish, with Arabic and Russian/Ukrainian interpretation available. However, the program welcomes parents of all cultural backgrounds, and we would be happy to arrange for interpretations in other languages as needed. You don't have to speak English to be a Natural Leader!
