    AVID's Mission

AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

    AVID is...

    • a program found in over 4,500 schools in 45 states and 15 countries
    • a class available to 7th and 8th grade students at North Middle School
    • a college preparatory system that:
      • teaches students organization skills (both physical and mental)
      • helps students develop writing, inquiry, and reading strategies to be successful
      • builds collaboration skills
      • prepare students to access rigorous courses that will prepare them for success in 4-year colleges and universities

    Who is an AVID student?

AVID students are generally in the academic middle - B, C, and even D students - who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but are falling short of their potential.

They may be the first in their families to attend college, and/or from low-income or minority families.

Some AVID students may have special circumstances that are impacting their success and receive support from the AVID program to get back on track.

Who can I talk to about enrolling in the AVID program?
