Hello Whittier Families,
It seems surreal to be writing this and not seeing the halls and classrooms filled with your children. The global health crisis has already changed our lives in many ways. In times of uncertainty and stress, Fred Rogers said this: "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." (Mister Rogers' Parenting Book, 2002).
We are definitely seeing the helpers providing and extending the caring spirit into our communities locally, nationally, and globally. These connections to look out after and help one another will move us forward during these unprecedented times.
It is completely normal to have many different feelings about this situation. If your child and/or you want to talk or have questions/concerns, please contact me. I will be checking my email and voicemail daily in order to respond accordingly. We care about you and are here to support you.
Be safe & stay healthy.
Can my family access social emotional resources and support from our school remotely during the closure?
During the extended school closure Social Emotional Learning resources are being made available to families by the Committee for Children (CFC), creators of the 2nd Step Program used in all elementary schools.
Here is a CFC resource page that families can access without an account. CFC will be adding information to this page.
Additionally, families can view/access lesson materials specific to their child’s grade by creating an account via https://www.secondstep.org/
Once you create an account, enter the activation code below for your child’s grade level.
