    Welcome to 1st grade!

I am Kim Discher and I am thrilled to be teaching first grade at Emerson Elementary!

First grade is a huge year of growth. I am eager to support your child as they grow into a confident scholar and community member.  I’m committed to creating a classroom environment where all feel valued, safe, loved, and supported. As a way to increase engagement and a feeling of welcome, last year I trained my personal dog to be a therapy dog for Emerson. He is full time in our classroom, but sometimes visits other teachers and students to help support the overall feeling of well-being in the building.  He thrives in his job and loves being an Emerson Falcon.  In addition to the academics, we also learn how to be safe, respectful, and responsible members of a classroom community. This means your student will learn how to identify and manage their emotions and develop a sense of empathy for others.
