• Remember these are suggested learning activities and pacing. Each child and family may go about this in a different way.  My goal is that students have access to engaging and relevant learning activities if desired or needed for the closure.  However, the activities will not be graded.  When turned in, students will receive feedback only. This feedback is to help them grow, learn, and improve in what they are working on. Have grace and patience with your student and yourself during this unique situation. We are all doing our best. :)  ~Mrs. Storms~

Printable plans are available in the Classroom Documents section of the classroom website and on the Team C-1 Google Classroom.  If you would like teacher feedback and/or support on assignments typing them into the Google Classroom assignments is the most efficient way. I am happy to support through email as well.

    FRIDAY, 03/27/20:

Math: Connect to Pearson Easy Bridge and complete the Guided Practice and Quiz for Topic 9 Lesson 7 (9.7) and Topic 10 Lesson 4 (10.4). Review a Topic 7 Lesson on Khan.

Independent Reading: Using The City of Ember travel brochure on the Google Classroom as an example, brainstorm 2-3 characters in your book to be tour guides in your travel brochure. Write a short positive description of each tour guide in your INB.

Writing: Edit/Revise the first draft of your mystery short story. Focus on dialogue punctuation in your conventions edits and on adding dialogue tags in your revisions. Highlight all dialogue “said words” and change words if repetitive. Add tags—descriptions of what the character is doing or thinking when speaking if missing. Try to find one suspect or clue to expand your description of in detail using sensory words and figurative language.

Social Studies: Write your final draft of your Comparing the Colony Regions Paragraph on the hard copy in your big envelope or on the Google Classroom. Use the success criteria on the Comparing the Colony Regions Paragraph document to self-assess your final draft.

    • TUESDAY, 03/17/20:

Math: Connect to Pearson Easy Bridge and complete Topic 7 Lesson 1 (7.1) Guided Practice and Quiz. Review: Topic 6 Lesson on Pearson or Khan.

Independent Reading: Continue to read the first quadrant of your High Fantasy novel. By the end of today complete 1st Quadrant reading and begin to fill in Setting T-Chart, as the fantastical setting is often starting to be described in detail in the first quadrant along with the characters and problem. Be sure to add setting details to the T-chart in your INB and compare it to the world we live in.  For an example of how to do this chart refer to the Ember/Present Day World chart on page 25-26 in your Read Aloud INB.

Writing: Begin the Pre-Write of your PLOT DIAGRAM (not Dialogue Diagram) in your big envelope. Use the ledger size pre-write organizer for the rest of this week's writing lessons. Today, complete the Exposition (main characters/setting introduction), conflict (the mystery/crime), and rising action (3 suspects/motives/clues) for your chosen mystery story idea from the brainstorm/tap it.  Students can refer to The Case of the Charley Cheetah Theft short story and plot diagram on page 31 of their ELA INB for an example of how this should look in pre-write and final draft form.

Social Studies: Finish New England Colonies Packet Part 2. Read Source 3 and then answer questions 1, 2, and 3.  Remember that for question 3 you will pick the source that best answers the question.  Use the PowerPoint on the Google Classroom in the Social Studies section if you need guided directions. You can click on the images to watch the videos hyperlinked in the slides if you need to review source 1 or want to watch the song parodies. I have uploaded a Google Doc version of the assignment if students want to type the answers for all three colony assignments (New England, Middle, and Southern). I can provide feedback this way but I will not be grading work.  If stuck, students can reference The Sun's Size Lesson on page 25 in their ELA INB which is when this skill was taught and modeled.

iReady: One Hour--Complete 30 minutes of iReady Reading and 30 minutes of iReady Math.

      WEDNESDAY, 03/18/20:

Math: Connect to Pearson Easy Bridge and complete Topic 7 Lesson 2 (7.2) Guided Practice and Quiz. Review: Topic 6 Lesson on Pearson or Khan.

Independent Reading: Read the first half of the second quadrant of your High Fantasy novel. Be sure to add setting details to the T-chart in your INB and compare it to the world we live in.

Writing: Finish the Pre-Write of your PLOT DIAGRAM (not Dialogue Diagram). Complete the Climax (cliffhanger), Falling Action (explanation of who, how, why for the mystery), and the Resolution (satisfying ending) for your chosen mystery story idea from the brainstorm/tap it. Students can refer to The Case of the Charley Cheetah Theft short story and plot diagram on page 31 of their ELA INB for an example of how this should look in pre-write and final draft form.

Social Studies: Begin Middle Colonies Packet Part 1. Use the PowerPoint on the Google Classroom in the Social Studies section if you need guided directions. Create sentence stems for question 2 and 3 before reading. Re-watch the Source 1 video if needed and read source 2.
