Welcome

  • Joe Costa Welcome Families!

First grade is a place of excitement and exploration. As a team of learners, we dive into new concepts that stretch our thinking to encourage questions for understanding. It is an honor to be a part of our students’ lives and help them grow academically, emotionally, and socially. I believe that with equitable support everyone can be successful and that any student can grow to be who they want to be, do what they want to do, and thrive at it.

Here’s a little about me. I’m an east coaster at heart and by birth. I was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, also known as the city that lit the world. I’m a Red Sox fan through and through. I moved to Washington state as a teenager and graduated from Everett High School in 2000.

My education consists of a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and in Special Education. I received a Masters Degree in Curriculum & Design. I also have 7+ years working in Social Services primarily in the field of Applied Behavioral Analysis.

I am super excited to work with your little leader!

UPDATE: For right now, my goal for your student is to engage in online learning in a meaningful, supported manner. I will provide engaging tasks and learning opportunists for your student each week. District-provided Student Engagement Materials are also available to reinforce and extend learning.

During this school closure, I will be providing all learning resources and links through our Canavs Homeroom Page. This is where students will access content, zoom session links, and other important information. It is important that your student checks the Canvas Homeroom page daily.

If you have any questions, please reach out. Email is the best way for parents to contact me. Students can contact me by leaving a comment in the weekly google classroom group chat.

Please take care of yourselves and your families!
