Welcome to the Cascade Girls' Basketball Webpage
My name is Dave Roberts. I was named the Head Girls' Basketball coach on April 21st, 2020. With Covid-19 and the school closure, there are challenges in meeting with returning players and incoming freshmen. If you are a player or a parent of a player who will be at Cascade next year or in the future, the message below is my introduction to you.
Hello CHS Bruin Basketball players.
I teach APUSH, AP World History, and ELL History at Cascade. I have been a teacher at Cascade since 1996. You can call me Mr. Roberts, Coach Roberts, or D-Rob. My students started calling me D-Rob about 10 years ago and I didn’t stop them so it stuck.
This is the 3rd time I’ve been the head coach at Cascade. I coached for 8 years in the early 2000s. We were pretty good back then and I was fortunate enough to coach at the state tournament. The 2nd time I coached I knew it would be a short stay because I was not going to coach once my son got to high school. I wanted to be able to go to his activities so coaching would have been too much. Now that he’s graduating and Coach B has moved on, I decided I wanted to get back into it. I will still have a daughter at Cascade for the next 2 years but her activities don’t interfere with basketball as much.
My goal as your coach is to help each individual player improve their basketball skills which will help the team improve also. (Players, if you email me, you will have the opportunity to join our "group" where you will get more information about our strategy and style of play)
My goal is also to make sure our team represents Cascade High School well. We will treat referees and other teams/coaches with respect. We will also treat our own teammates with respect. Everyone in this program has value. Whether you are a leading scorer or a player who doesn’t get a lot of playing time, you are equally valued by me. Whatever we accomplish, we will do it together. We will always work to become better basketball players and better people. I want to coach players who are well-rounded people. People who work hard in school, play more than one sport (if they want), have other interests beyond academics and athletics, and understand the stock market. (that last one is just so I can ask you for advice and then retire early). When it is time for basketball practice and games though, I want to coach players who are 100% committed to being their best and focused on basketball. I promise you will get that from me.
Finally, my goal is to have fun. I want the people that are a part of this basketball program to work hard to improve and I want us to have fun while doing it. Winning is more fun than losing but it is not the only thing that matters when deciding something is fun or not. If we win a lot, great. I’m going to do everything I can to help us get there. That will be one of our goals. But if we don’t, we will focus on smaller victories. Did we give our best effort? Did we show improvement? There are many reasons to feel good about a performance and we will celebrate those positives. We will also look closely at our “failures” and look to immediately improve in those areas. Most importantly, we will value the opportunity to compete.
I’m excited to be your coach.Anyone interested in being a part of the CHS Girls' Basketball team next year is welcome to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for information about what we are doing to stay connected.
