  • Last Day of School!

It has been quite a year, but our students demonstrated real grit and perseverance since March.  Our results in the Spring I-Ready benchmark assessment were impressive.  As a class, we grew nearly 250% in Reading and 190% in Math!  There is no question our students rose to the challenge of distance learning.

To our outgoing 8th graders - Have an amazing summer, but try and find a little time for reading or writing.  High school is just around the corner, and I know you will all do amazing!

Thank you again for all your support.  I look forward to seeing what next year will bring.  Have an amazing summer, and I'll see you in September!

    Cheers,
    Mr. Marker

  • June 9, 2020 - Writing Sample

This week I'm asking students to focus on producing a small writing sample to support progress reporting.  The assignment has been posted to our Google Classroom.  I included 6 different questions to prompt students to respond with a minimum of 2 paragraphs.  My goal is to have this assignment submitted by ALL STUDENTS no later than Friday.  We will provide support during our 1:00 PM class, but it is important that students complete this task independently to provide the best present level for IEP progress reporting.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

No 1:00 PM Class TODAY.  Students will be instructed to work on the writing assignment.

  • June 4, 2020 - Progress Reports / No Class Friday

Tomorrow we will NOT have a 1:00 PM Friday Check in.  I will be meeting with our incoming 6th grade students to introduce them to our program.  Students will be instructed to work on the benchmark assessments during that time.

The schedule for emailing IEP progress reports has been changed.  Families should expect to receive progress reports on June 18, 2020.  I will include progress from February through the school closure on March 13th, as well as how students engaged in the areas of focus outlined in the Continuous Learning Plan.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Students have been making excellent progress on the I-Ready benchmark assessments.  Our goal is to have them all complete by early next week.  Please encourage them to give their BEST EFFORT.  As always, reach out anytime with questions or concerns.  Have a great weekend!

  • June 1, 2020 - I-Ready Benchmark Open

Beginning today, students will automatically be given access to the final benchmark assessment of the year.  They will complete one for Reading and Math.  Each one takes approximately 45-60 minutes to complete.

I'm providing time TODAY from 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM for them to begin.  We will NOT have a 1:00 PM class on Monday.  Any students having a difficult time accessing or completing the assessment will be given additional support if needed.  Please encourage students to give their BEST EFFORT.  I'm excited to see the progress our students made this year!  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Progress Reports will be emailed to families on June 18th.  Our goal will be to provide an update on student progress towards goals outlined in their IEP, as well as the focus points in the Continuous Learning Plan.  If you would rather have your progress reports mailed to your home, please let me know.

I-Ready Benchmark Assessments - Students will need to complete a benchmark assessment in both I-Ready Reading and Math.  Each assessment takes about 45 minutes to complete.  The information they provide will help us support the students when we return in the fall.  It will be pushed out to students automatically, so they will access I-Ready as normal and it will prompt them to complete the assessment.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Have a great weekend!

  • May 20, 2020

Another week of excellent engagement from our students!  Just a reminder, we have no school on 5/22/2020 and 5/25/2020.  On Tuesday, May 26th, students will be given a link to a school-wide lesson focused on Memorial Day.  I will email the link to students, but they can access it directly in Canvas.  We will NOT have any Zoom classes that day.  Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

Students will be completing the final I-Ready benchmark assessment in early June.  I'm excited to see just how much growth our students have demonstrated this year!  Access will be like normal, so students should have no problem completing the benchmark.  I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing holiday weekend!

Happy Friday!  This week our students did an amazing job engaging in I-Ready Reading and Math.  Our total time for the week was one of the highest recorded in our classroom this school year!  Remind students that our goal is 60 Minutes a week in each subject.

We also began a new rewards program this week.  The goal is to incentivize attendance and participation in our Zoom classes, general education classes, and I-Ready Reading and Math engagement.  Students earn "Marks" they can redeem for gift cards or other requested items.  Additional information will be emailed to families next week.

Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.  Next week we will have class Monday-Thursday.  There is NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY (Non-Instructional Day) or MONDAY (Memorial Day Holiday).  Have a great weekend!

  • May the "4th" be with you!

Good Morning Students and Families!  I hope everyone had a great weekend.  It looks like we are going to be hitting nearly 80 degrees this week!  I encourage students to get outside and be active at least once a day.  This week we will be meeting Monday - Thursday at 10:45 AM and 1:00 PM.  On Monday, students will only meet for a few minutes at 1:00 PM, but will have an independent reading activity to complete in our Google Classroom.  I appreciate all of your support!

    Continuous Learning Plan Update:

The first few Continuous Learning Plans will be emailed today and tomorrow.  Please review them and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  I will be confirming with families throughout the week with the goal of having them all completed by May 8th.

If you have not responded to the Continuous Learning Plan emails, please take a minute to answer the two questions I included.  It will help me develop the plans.  Have a great Monday!

We are off and rolling on another week of distance learning.  So far this week we have completed activities in Social Thinking, Reading, Writing and Math.  Students read an article about the role Zoo's play in protecting animals from extinction and wrote opinion sentences in a shared document.  Our Google Classroom is up and running with activities for students to support our Zoom "Real-Time" instruction.  All in all, it has been a great start to the week!

Parents - If you would like to view our Google Classroom please let me know.  As always, feel free to email me with any questions or comments.

New Achieve Classroom Schedule BEGINS TOMORROW

Beginning tomorrow, students will have more of an opportunity to engage in learning and discussion with staff and peers.  Our goal is to incorporate new learning with supporting students individual needs.  As this is a new experience for all of us, I expect it will take time to re-establish our routines.  All students were emailed INDIVIDUALIZED schedules with hot links to their other teachers.  The schedule should assist in keeping students aware of when they are expected to be available.  I look forward to seeing all of our young scholars tomorrow at 10:45 AM and 1:00 PM!

Zoom Meeting Invites will be sent EACH MORNING by 9:00 AM

Parents - Have students check school email each morning (Monday - Friday) for my classroom Zoom links.  I hope to establish a routine that is simple and reliable.

    Hi Students!

I hope everyone had a good weekend.  This week we will have our first Zoom discussion.  It will be a great way for us to all be in the same "virtual" space to get an update on how everyone is doing.  You will all recieve an email with the invitation to join me TOMORROW at 1:00 PM.  Zoom works great because you can use your computer to have both video and audio, or just call in with your cellphone.  If you would prefer not to have video, your computer will allow just audio as well.  Please take a few minutes and join us TOMORROW.  Oh, and watch my first student update video, the link is below.  It will show you how to use the invitation to join Zoom.  Keep up the good work!

PLEASE WATCH - STUDENT UPDATE VIDEO

  • UPDATE 3/26/2020

I hope everyone is staying safe and well.  I'm proud of the dedication our students are showing in working remotely.  Our I-Ready reading and math times have been exceeding expectations!  I will continue to find new ways to engage students while our schools are closed.  One resource I'm planning on using in the coming weeks is the video/phone conference platform ZOOM.  My goal is to be available to students or families at different times during the week.  I'm including tutorial videos from Zoom in the Quicklinks section of my website for students and families to reference.  It is an excellent tool to stay connected.  Please email me with any questions or concerns, or how I can best support you during the closure.

    Cheers,
    Mr. Marker
