Weekly Announcements

  • FRIDAY, APRIL 3, 2020 UPDATE

This week our students took part in a Zoom classroom meeting.  It was great to see those that attended!  We are having another Zoom classroom meeting TODAY at 1:00 PM.  All of the students have been emailed the invitation to attend.  I want to thank those families that attended our Zoom meetings this week.  Additional times will be offered in the coming weeks.  I will continue to offer "office hours" when we return from Spring Break.  My goal is to support families and students as we explore a learning environment that has changed significantly.  With buildings closed, the best method to reach me is through email.  Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.  Thank you for your continued support, and have a great Spring Break!

    Hi Students!

I hope everyone had a good weekend.  This week we will have our first Zoom discussion.  It will be a great way for us to all be in the same "virtual" space to get an update on how everyone is doing.  You will all recieve an email with the invitation to join me TOMORROW at 1:00 PM.  Zoom works great because you can use your computer to have both video and audio, or just call in with your cellphone.  If you would prefer not to have video, your computer will allow just audio as well.  Please take a few minutes and join us TOMORROW.  Oh, and watch my first student update video, the link is below.  It will show you how to use the invitation to join Zoom.  Keep up the good work!

  • UPDATE 3/26/2020

I hope everyone is staying safe and well.  I'm proud of the dedication our students are showing in working remotely.  Our I-Ready reading and math times have been exceeding expectations!  I will continue to find new ways to engage students while our schools are closed.  One resource I'm planning on using in the coming weeks is the video/phone conference platform ZOOM.  My goal is to be available to students or families at different times during the week.  I'm including tutorial videos from Zoom in the Quicklinks section of my website for students and families to reference.  It is an excellent tool to stay connected.  Please email me with any questions or concerns, or how I can best support you during the closure.

    Cheers,
    Mr. Marker

This is going to be an excellent year!  Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

    UPDATE March 23, 2020 -

Beginning this week, I will be updating my website weekly with announcements, additional instructional support links, and other tools to keep our students engaged in learning.  During the closure, students have been instructed to work with online resources they have been using all year.  Each weekday, students need to be actively using I-Ready for Reading and Math support.  Students have been instructed to work at least 60 minutes a week in each Reading and Math.  Another ELA support tool the students have, and know how to access, is Language Live.  Please email me directly if you have any difficulties accessing any of the curriculum.

Students were sent home with a social thinking packet prior to the closure.  It included a number of worksheets from the current unit of study.  As I will not be collecting them, they are intended to support students for about 2 weeks (through March 30).  I'm working with the district to find additional digital tools to support social and emotional learning.  I will post new material next week.

This week I posted two new instructional links students can access for free.  CNN 10 is a student news platform that we have used daily in our classroom.  It has a collection of current event stories from around the world.  Students have enjoyed watching it in class, and at only 10 minutes, it is a great home learning tool.  Another great resource is the scholastic at home learning quick link.  It has two weeks of daily activities designed to engage students in a variety of different lessons.  Students need to select Grades 6-9, or they can investigate all of them if they choose.

I will be available by email during normal school hours (7:30-2:00) throughout the school closure, with the exception of Spring Break (April 6-10).  My goal is to respond to all emails within 24 hours.

Additional instructional support tools will be posted to the Quick Links on this page.
