Meet the Teacher Librarian

  •  Mr. Elder "A love of reading is the greatest educational gift you can give a child - better than a private-school education, better than a computer, better than even a degree from Harvard. A love of reading changes everything." Mary Leonhardt

I'm Gregg Elder the Teacher-Librarian at Evergreen Middle School. It is my privilege to work with parents, students and the wonderful staff at Evergreen to help meet the unique needs of our students. This is an exciting time to be navigating the Information Age. I hope to guide students toward becoming effective users of information, being digitally safe, and promoting the ethical use of our technology resources. Books, Books, Books....... we have lots of great books and I'm always happy to match your interests with titles that you might enjoy. Stop by and see me.

Personal: My wife, Barbara, works at Everett High School. We have two children both graduates of Everett Public Schools. I graduated from Cascade High School, the University of Washington, as well as Library Studies at Seattle Pacific University and the U of W. I completed my National Boards in Library Media in 2004 and went through the renewal process in 2013- 2024.

As a family, we enjoy most of what the great Pacific Northwest has to offer- camping, hiking, swimming, bicycling, and sometimes a little golf. I also enjoy bicycling in the Northwest. I've ridden in ten STP's (Seattle to Portland), one PTS (Portland to Seattle by myself), two Seattle to Vancouver and numerous one and two day rides.

I've helped organize a two day fund raising bicycle event in Skagit County. Our goal is to raise money for continued ALS research (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and to help provide patient services. We had over 100 riders in our first year, had a great time and continue to provide support for the Evergreen Chapter of ALS. Next year's ride will be bigger and better.

The Evergreen Library is a beautiful facility and we'd be happy to give you a quick tour. I'd also remind you that we are a Middle School and libraries in Middle Schools are not always the quiet places you may remember from days gone by.

In our Library you will find students studying, looking for books, using the internet for research, video editing teams from Mr. Mead's Technology classes completing work, student's using Big 6 researching techniques to complete PowerPoint Projects and a variety of other student centered activities.

    Have a good day,

    Gregg Elder
