Greetings, fifth grade families and students!
Welcome back to school! My name is Meg O'Reilly and I am thrilled to be your child's teacher this year.
I was born and raised in New York City, and I just made the big move to Washington state with my family this past August. I was inspired to become a teacher when I attended elementary school in Queens. After graduating high school, I attended CUNY Queens College, where I received my Bachelor's degrees in Elementary Education and United States History. Then, I moved on to complete graduate school at Teacher's College, Columbia University with a Master's Degree in Literacy Specialist, Birth-6th grade.
In my professional career, I have worked closely with supportive professors, talented mentor teachers, and inspirational and dedicated colleagues and supervisors. I began as a third grade teacher, moved onto 4 years teaching fourth grade, and spent the last 4 years teaching fifth grade math and science in a departmentalized model. Teaching in the content areas has become my specialty as I truly believe that is where children make the most connections and growth, so I am very much looking forward to the growth your child will make with this exciting fifth grade curriculum. I am also very pleased to be working alongside my fellow fifth grade teachers, Ms. Dumag and Ms. Ravitch, with this class!
