Author Justin Dean Visiting Cedar Wood October 1!
Justin Dean, author of the brand new book, Awesome Dog 5000, will be visiting our third through fifth graders on Tuesday morning, October 1, for an hour long presentation focused on getting kids excited about storytelling and the importance of reading. The multi-media keynote will include slides, videos, illustrations, interactive storytelling, and a live drawing demonstration!
Students have an opportunity to purchase an autographed copy of his book for $15.46, tax included. A blue order form will be sent home with students. If you need another form, please click here.
The order form is due by Wednesday, September 25. Students will receive their autographed copy sometime after the assembly on Tuesday.
We would really like to thank Jessica Perez, manager of University Bookstore in Mill Creek, for bringing us this author and many others in the past. Unfortunately, this will be our last author visit from University Bookstore since they will be closing their doors for good on October 19. I will personally really miss this amazing bookstore and the community connections that went along with it. We thank Jessica for always reaching out with authors and other community events. You will be sorely missed!!!
PTA Art Reflections - Look Within!
It's that time of year for students to begin thinking about art! We have the PTA Art Reflections program beginning. If a student would like to participate, they think producing some art that would fit with the them this year, "Look Within." Students think about what this theme means to them, create an art piece, and turn it into our office by November 8th. There are multiple categories, including choreograpy, film production, literature, music composition, photography, visual arts (2D or 3D). Entries can go onto the district, state, and even national levels. A special evening event will occur at Cedar Wood in November to celebrate everyone who submits art.
We would like to thank Mike Wheeler for heading this program again at Cedar Wood. If you have additional question, you can email Mr. Wheeler at firstname.lastname@example.org. Some helpful links follow:

Watch the following videos to learn about how to use Destiny Discover (see what you have checked out, place holds, read eBooks) and how our library books are organized by taking a tour of the library.
When students search for websites on Destiny Quest, they can search for websites closer to their independent reading levels. On Destiny Quest and FollettShelf, when students search for books, they can refine searches by adjusting AR levels. This sheet shows a correlation between AR and lexile levels so students understand what lexile to adjust to when searching for websites.
