Welcome

  • Welcome to the Intermediate Extended Resource Room class at Jefferson Elementary!

My name is Wendy McDermott. I began my career as a paraeducator with the Shoreline School District back in 1991. I received my BA in Special Education from Seattle Pacific University in 1998 and earned a M.Ed. in Severe Disabilities from the University of Washington in 2003.

I have been teaching in a variety of special education settings since 2000. While working for Everett Public Schools, I served as the Resource Room Teacher at Jefferson Elementary and the Primary Extended Resource Room Teacher at Garfield Elementary. I am pleased to be back at Jefferson; go Rhinos!

Our classroom focus this year will be on self-empowerment. We encourage students to advocate for themselves and take control of their education. Being a learner means understanding what you are working on and why, celebrating when you have mastered a new skill, and setting goals for the future.

On a personal note, I live in Everett and am engaged to be married this Fall. I enjoy reading, crocheting, cooking, and gardening (most often with the “help” of my dog and cat).

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I look forward to meeting you all!
