Happy 2020, everyone! I am excited to continue working with our students and families as well as our outstanding faculty and staff. This is my 15th year as an educator, my 11th year as a school counselor. I began my career as a middle school science teacher and then became a high school counselor in Texas. I then moved to Georgia and worked as an elementary school counselor for six years. Now I am happy to be here enjoying life in the beautiful Pacific Northwest!I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Earth Science from Baylor University, a Masters of Education in Counseling and Guidance from Texas State University, and a Specialist in Education in Professional Counseling and Supervision from the University of West Georgia. An interesting fact about me is that I spent most of my childhood in Brazil and I speak Portuguese as well. Outside of school I enjoy triathlon, jiu jitsu, snowboarding, riding my motorcycle, playing music, and spending time with my wife and daughter.
Please know that I am always available to collaborate with students, parents, and teachers and I look forward to continue being a part of the wonderful Madison community. As our school building is now closed due to COVID-19, we are all exploring new ways of staying connected. I have created a Google Classroom and will be updating it often. Once students go to www.classroom.google.com, they will need to sign in using their Everett Public Schools login information in the upper right-hand corner (kids know this as their lunch number @apps.everettsd.org). The code to join is c2wmelc. Students and parents can respond and communicate with me there. I will also be available by email as usual and will be frequently checking my office voicemail. I have also created a padlet site where I record myself reading books. The link is https://padlet.com/1221610/s9agpnue9qnz
Here is a video link that explains Coronavirus in a great way for K-2nd grades:
And this is a good video for 3rd-5th grades:
The district has a great list of community resrouces (unemployment, rent, utilities, shelter, food, transportation, etc) that could be helpful to some of our families during this difficult time.
Also, if you would like me to check in with your child, please have them fill out this Google Survey Link
