To our EPS Community
-
Amongst our nation we have witnessed firsthand a continuous rise in hate crimes and police brutality at an alarming rate of frequency. Our department wants to reiterate our commitment to creating safe, caring, and mutually respectful environments within our school district community so that all students, families, and staff feel welcomed, valued, and supported. Below are some resources that you can explore, share, and offer support in processing these most recent events or any other things you might be feeling.
- Most importantly, take care of yourselves.
- Utilize or share the resources provided by our department of Student Support Services.
- Reach out to someone you know and find your support network:
Check-in with your loved ones that are affected by asking them “How are you feeling about this?” or “How can I support you?”.
If you are a witness or a victim of a hate incident or unresolved, severe, or persistent harassment report immediately.
- Raise awareness & educate yourself:
- Addressing Police Violence:
- Take the Bystander Intervention Training:
Advancing Justice-AAJC and Hollaback! partnered with one another to create a comprehensive guide including de-escalating situations when witnessing someone being harassed.
These resources and tools are the beginning of ways in which we can support one another within our community during times like these. We must continue to stand together as a community because what affects one of us in this country, affects all of us in this country. You are not alone and remember you matter.
With love and compassion,
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Department
