The ACT® college readiness assessment is a test of educational development and measures how much a student has already learned. The ACT test reflects the high school experience, being more closely tied to curriculum and covering concepts taught in most secondary schools. The ACT consists of tests in four areas: English, Reading, Math, and Science Reasoning and an optional Writing test. There are no penalties for a wrong answer; therefore, students are encouraged to answer ALL questions.

The SAT® reasoning test measures critical thinking abilities related to successful college performance. The Subject Tests are one-hour, primarily multiple choice tests  measuring knowledge of particular subjects and the ability to apply that knowledge. A student applying to more highly selective colleges must complete at least two subject tests in addition to the SAT and/or the ACT with Writing test. Please consult your counselor and college websites to determine if you need to take the Subject Tests.

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)--a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC)--is a standardized test providing firsthand practice for the SAT. The PSAT/NMSQT also gives students a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools.

The PSAT/NMSQT measures:

• Critical reading skills.
• Math problem-solving skills.
• Writing skills.

 Other tests include AP testing and CLEP exams.
