Bio- I am pleased to be continuing my teaching career at Penny Creek Elementary. Here is a bit about me!
I grew up and went to college on Long Island , NY. After finishing school I moved to Missoula, Montana where I taught preschool, kindergarten, and began my professional interests in gifted education. I became the Gifted and Talented coordinator for a K-8 school where I worked with identified students in a pull out setting. I also developed a program where I worked with all students in whole class and small group settings. Higher level thinking through puzzles, analogies, and monthly themed topics were some of the activities I did.
After getting married in 1998, I moved to the Seattle area and began working in the Everett School District's Highly Capable program at Cedar Wood Elementary as a 4/5th grade teacher. Over the next nine years I was a 3/4th, 4th, and 4/5th grade teacher for high performing students. My passion became big projects that integrated all subjects for a unique learning experience. I love what I do and share that passion and joy with my students each day. In 2002, I received my Master's Degree in Education. In 2006, I made a change and taught second grade for one year. I wanted to challenge myself and learn some new skills. It was an interesting year, but one that allowed me to grow as an educator. In 2007, I started teaching at the brand new Forest View Elementary as a 4th grade teacher. It was an exciting year in a new and beautiful environment. I have enjoyed getting to know the many families who have passed through those halls. In 2009, I earned my National Board Certification in teaching. This was an amazing opportunity for growth and a place to hone my craft. In June of 2010, I had my first child and then my second child March 2012. This changed my teaching by looking at life through the eyes of a parent.
I am so excited to be taking on my next challenge as the PE teacher here at Penny Creek. It will be a wonderful opportunity to work with every child here and to help them reach their fitness potential and a love of being active. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns you or your child may have as we embark on another wonderful year of learning, growth, and fun!
