Mrs. Arango: 8th grade English for 7th grade students

  • Diana Arango Note regarding School Closure: During the mandated closure, a summary of weekly ELA activities will be posted on this classroom website via the link to left: Lessons for School Closure. Students can access the activities and any relevant directions, documents, links and/or slides via Google Classroom, which were used multiple times in class. My goal is to keep my English students engaged in learning with opportunities for growth. These activities will not be graded and will only be entered into the gradebook as TI (Turned In), however, as students share documents online, I will provide individualized feedback via comments in Google Classroom. I will check my email each work day and will respond to all parent and student inquiries (see link to email below). Together with patience, creativity and flexibility, we will make this a meaningful learning experience! Please take care of your family and stay healthy.
Background and Experience: I received my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington (Go Huskies!) and worked for several years in the business world as the Payroll Administrator and Human Resource Manager for our family's general contracting company.  When we retired our business in 2001, I returned to the UW, obtained my teaching certification, and made a career change. Over the past 16 years I have been challenged and energized through teaching both 7th and 8th grade ELA and Social Studies here at Gateway.

Current Year: For the 2019/20 school year, I will be teaching three sections of English for 7th grade students who have opted to challenge themselves with the 8th grade literacy curriculum. This class is fast paced and students are assessed according to 8th grade standards. Students who are successful in this course are organized and self-directed with a "growth mindset" for learning.  My personal teaching philosophy is that learning should be relevant, rigorous and fun.
