Welcome

  • Ms. Beaman
Welcome! This is my seventh year at EHS. I have taught Spanish at Emerald Ridge High School in Puyallup and Mariner High School in Everett, WA. I spent a year as a volunteer teacher in American Samoa. I received my BA in Spanish and Political Science from Pacific Lutheran University and my MA in Teaching at Seattle Pacific University. Through my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to study abroad in South Africa, Granada, Spain, and Oaxaca, Mexico. Traveling is a passion of mine that has taken me throughout the world, allowing me to experience a variety of cultures which I incorporate into my lessons.

Please find all class notes, assignments and information on CANVAS. Students have access via their managed bookmarks on their school issued laptops. Guardians can access Canvas using their LMS log in information. Please visit https://www.everettsd.org/Page/31098 if you need help accessing Canvas.

As a way to maintain and improve your Spanish skills, I encourage you to take this opportunity to seek out and watch Spanish language videos.  Netflix and Prime have subtitle options that include Spanish, and it is very helpful if you use the Spanish language subtitles when available.  Please be aware that much of the content on Netflix and Prime is stronger than what we would watch in school, so be sure that your parents approve.  Children's programming is always a safe bet, and the two Zip and Zap movies are entertaining and full of good Spanish.  Youtube has lots of G rated options.  I like Calliou in Spanish because it's easy to understand, as is Pocoyo and Peppa the Pig.  There are computer-generated subtitles on most Youtube content that miss a lot and do a lot wrong, but they are good to turn on anyway.  Finally, broadcast television such as Univision and Telemundo are great sources.  Use your TV remote to access the closed captioning which will already be in Spanish.
