My name is Melanya Materne, and I teach 11th grade English and AP Language & Composition.

 

I earned both my Bachelor's in English and my Master's in Teaching degrees from the University of Washington (Seattle). 

 

My teaching practice is guided by the belief that "education is society's great equalizer" (Horace Mann). I therefore strive to balance rigorous instruction with supportive and inclusive practices. 

 

Outside of the classroom, I can be found taking my dog on hikes, riding my motorcycle, or taking my Knowledge Bowl club to trivia competitions.
